7 Days Lake Kivu and Chimpanzee Safari

Day 1:  Arrival
On arrival at the airport, pick up and transfer to a hotel in Rwanda.

Overnight at Hotel in Rwanda.

Day 2:  City Tour - Volcanoes National Park
On this day, morning city tour which includes the Kigali Genocide Memorial Centre, the trading center, the ministry area, the new and modern residential quarter and other sites.

After the tour of Kigali we will have lunch at one of the famous restaurant in Kigali depending on your choice before we proceed to Kinigi, the home for the famous mountain gorillas, passing through magnificent views of the beautiful, hilly countryside which gives Rwanda its name as “a country of a thousand hills”. This is the closest village to the Volcanoes National park where the mountain gorilla resides.

Dinner and Overnight at hotel or lodge.

Day 3:  Volcanoes National Park
On this day, very early in the morning be at Kinigi ranger station by 7am, where we are allocated guides and briefed before heading into the forest. You will have the opportunity to track one of the seven habituated gorilla groups in Rwanda.

The walk to find the gorillas may be as short as two hours, but it will generally take 2-4 hours to find them as their territory can range up to 40km. Once the gorilla group is located you will spend an hour with them as they feed, rest and play. 

Afternoon will be spent at leisure. Dinner and Overnight at hotel or lodge.

Day 4: Volcanoes National Park – Lake Kivu
On this day depart for Golden monkey trekking. These monkeys are one of the most endangered primates in Africa and it is now believed that the only viable population of these monkeys is in the Virunga Volcanoes.

A smaller population may exist in the Nyungwe Forest in Southern Rwanda but this has yet to be verified. The golden monkey is a distinct species of guenon – Cercopithecus Kandti and is endemic to the Albertine.

Afternoon transfer to Lake Kivu. Dinner and Overnight at hotel or lodge.

Day 5: Nyungwe National Park
After breakfast check out and transfer to Nyungwe National Park in the South of the country. Situated in the majestic hills of southwestern Rwanda, is the largest ‘island’ of mountain forest remaining in east and central Africa.

This rich and ancient center of unparalleled biodiversity and natural wonders is uniquely accessible to the casual visitor. Nyungwe is celebrated for its rich variety of flora and fauna. There are at least 200 tree species found in the forest, along with hundreds of different flowering plants, including wild nbegonia, more than 100 species of orchid, and sensational giant lobelias. It allows tourists to view butterflies, birds and blue monkeys that dwell in the upper scales of the forest.

Dinner and Overnight at hotel or lodge.

Day 6: Nyungwe National park
On this day you will depart for the Chimpanzee trekking, afternoon will be spent at your leisure.

Dinner and Overnight at hotel or lodge.

Day 7: Departure
Transfer to Kigali for your out bound flight, on the way you will visit the National Museum of Rwanda.

Package Includes:

  • 1gorilla trekking permit per person. 
  • 1 Golden monkey + 1 Chimpanzee  trekking permit per person.
  • All other activities mentioned in the schedule,
  • Accommodations and Meals as listed.
  • Transport and guiding fees in a 4WD Safari jeep.
  • 2 Bottle of Drinking water each day of your trekking.
  • All levis and Internal Taxes.

  • International airfares and departures taxes.
  • Personal communications charges for telephone calls, faxes, email, etc.
  • Tips and gratuities for hotel, lodge and camp staff and for your driver/guide.
  • Alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. (Bottled mineral water is provided in the minivan while on game drives).
