7 Days Northern Serengeti Migration Safari May - August / November - January

The highlight of an African safari is witnessing the annual Migrations – either at Serengeti, Tanzania OR Masai Mara, Kenya. The annual migration, is an ancient phenomenon, and the largest movement of wildlife on earth. Each year one million of wildebeests, zebras, Thomson's gazelles and other animals migrate through the plains of Serengeti and the neigh bouring Masai Mara, following seasonally dictated variations of rains in search of grass and water.

Mapito Tented Camp is situated at Ikoma, just outside Serengeti National Park, on the migration corridor. Big herds of Wild life pass this area between May to August and November to January, allowing guests to be close to the migration during these months. Due to the camp's central location all parts of the Serengeti are easily accessible. As the Serengeti hosts a great variety of residential wildlife a stay at Mapito Tented Camp is an experience throughout the year.

Day 1

Depart Kilimanjaro in the morning for Lake Manyara, arriving there by lunch time. Afternoon game drive at Lake Manyara National Park. Nestling at the base of the Great Rift Valley escarpment, the park is recognized for its incredible beauty. You can see many game animals such as Buffalo, Elephant, Giraffe, Impala, hippo and others.

Overnight will be at a 4 or 5 star accommodation property(B, L, D)

Day 2

After breakfast you start on your way to Serengeti National Park. A picnic lunch will be provided. On the way you will stop at the Olduvai Gorge where anthropologists Louis and Mary Leakey made many significant discoveries, contributing to the theory that human life originated in Africa. After stopping for your picnic lunch on a kopje (rock outcropping) in Serengeti you will continue further into the park for game drive. The Serengeti is best-known for its wildlife diversity and boasts many species of plain animals from hare to the elephant. The name Serengeti comes from the Masai word "Siringet" meaning endless plain.

Overnight will be at a 4 or 5 star accommodation property. All meals included.

Day 3

A full day of game drives around Serengeti. Depending on the time of year and the migration of the herds you can expect to see wildebeest, lions, elephants, giraffes, zebras, monkeys, baboons, hippos, rhinos, antelopes and many birds and other species.

Overnight will be at a 4 or 5 star accommodation property at Serengeti. All meals included.

Day 4

Early morning proceed for game drive to see predators returning from hunting, and other animals waking up. Return to the Camp for breakfast then check out and drive game viewing all the way to Naabi Hill Gate. You enter the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, and make some stops at the Grzimek Memorial and the Viewpoint into the crater; after which you proceed to your lodge for lunch. In the afternoon, go for a Nature Walk at the Northern Crater Rim of Ngorongoro Crater inhabited by buffaloes, elephants, baboons, monkeys and different species of birds. Escorted by a Masai Guide or a ranger you follow animal paths through dense bush.

Overnight will be at a 4 or 5 star accommodation property. All meals included.

Day 5

After breakfast will descend into the crater for a wonderful game drive (with a picnic lunch) inside the Ngorongoro Crater considered as an UNESCO World Heritage Site. As very few animals migrate in and out of the crater with its 2000 ft. high walls the Ngorongoro Crater has the highest wild animal density worldwide. Among the species are lions, elephants, giraffes, zebras, hippos, flamingos, jackals, rhinos, antelopes, many birds and other species. You might expect to see the 'Big Five' in one day.

Overnight will be at a 4 or 5 star accommodation property. All meals included.

Day 6

After breakfst you proceed to Tarangire, Tanzania's third largest national park and sanctuary for an unusually large elephant population. Majestic baobab trees are an interesting feature of the park, dwarfing the animals that feed beneath them. Animals concentrate along the Tarangire River, which provides the only permanent water supply in the area. There is a great diversity of wildlife including monkeys, lion, leopard, cheetah and up to six thousand elephant.

Overnight will be at a 4 or 5 star accommodation property at Tarangire. All meals included.
