COUNTRY: Tanzania  Zanzibar and Pemba

DURATION:07 Nights / 08 Days

Explore Serengeti national Park - Tanzania's oldest and most popular national park, also a world heritage site and recently proclaimed as the 7th wonder of the world. The Serengeti is famed for its annual migration where some six million hooves pound the open plains as more than 200,000 zebra and 300,000 Thomson's gazelle join the wildebeest’s trek for fresh grazing.
Tour the heart of Zanzibar Town, Stone Town which was constructed during the 19th century and remains largely unchanged. Labyrinths of narrow alleys lead to palaces, mosques and old Arab houses; tiny shops sell dotted tinga-tinga paintings, Zanzibar clocks and heavily adorned chests.
Visit the Ruaha which is a little visited park and one of Tanzania's best kept secrets. The size of Belgium, Ruaha is a special park due its remoteness, rivers, rocky kopjes and plains – a vast range of habitats with a correspondingly diverse number of wildlife species. Vegetation changes often from treeless grasslands to swamps and evergreen forests. There are 1600 plant species compared to 600 in the Serengeti and now reportedly over 500 bird species (which approximates to half that found in the entire country).

Yet even when the migration is quiet, the Serengeti offers arguably the most scintillating game-viewing in Africa: great herds of buffalo, smaller groups of elephant and giraffe, and thousands upon thousands of eland, topi, kongoni, impala and Grant’s gazelles in the endless plains of the Serengeti for a chance to see the great herds of wildebeest, zebras and gazelles or a pride of lions lounging in the shade.

Day 3: Serengeti National Park

Early morning game drives in the wilderness return to lodge for breakfast, relax by the pool side then embark on afternoon game drive just after lunch. As enduring as the game-viewing is the liberating sense of space that characterizes the Serengeti Plains, stretching across sun burnt savannah to a shimmering golden horizon at the end of the earth. Yet, after the rains, this golden expanse of grass is transformed into an endless green carpet flecked with wildflowers. And there are also wooded hills and towering termite mounds, rivers lined with fig trees and acacia woodland stained orange by dust. Popular the Serengeti might be, but it remains so vast that you may be the only human audience when a pride of lions masterminds a siege, focused unswervingly on its next meal.
